Question:
does anyone have suggestions of what pureed foods I can eat?

I am a pureed food diet for the 8 weeks after my surgery. I am in my third week and I have run out of ideas of pureed food. I know about yogurt, eggs, ect. but I want to eat something good, if anyone has a receipt or suggestion it will be great.    — Veronica M. (posted on December 9, 2002)

Veronica: I'm at about the same stage. I consider anything I can run through the blender to be pureeed- I got a blender just for this purpose. Soups are good; I especially like potato, but just about any can be pureed. I've tried chili, watered down a little to soup cosistency and pureed. I use a chocolate flavor protein shake; I've added peanut butter to that, and also once tried adding in a couple of unsweetened frozen strawberries. Last night I made a vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast, sugar free, and added some frozen unsweetened peaches. I've also tried some baby food, because I wanted some veggies, and I like those fine- they taste good to me. I'm just watching to be sure that the ones I try don't have a lot of starchy extras added in, but are pretty much just the food. You could probably puree just about any vegetable you wanted to try. I'm trying to stay away from rice, pasta etc. yet. I eat some cottage cheese, not blending it but just making sure I've mushed it before swallowing. Of course there's SF pudding and Jell-O; maybe try the Jell-O with some unsweetened pureed fruit? Anything new I try to go very slowly at first, but nothing so far has bothered me.

Cook anything you normally love to eat (THINK PROEIN!) and throw it in the food processor! I had lemon chicken, chicken teriyaki...anything my family ate, I ate! I also enjoyed meatloaf or meatballs made with very low fat meat and fat free brown gray, and for a change I ate the insides of manicotti or stuffed shells. Any fish went down easily and did not have to be pureed. Don't think "bland and soft" just think of what you normally like to eat and how to process it! I was not allowed carbs until I went on solid food 6 days ago. GOod luck!

I like Stouffer's Spinach Souffle--a side dish in the freezer section. It was good for variety when I was on pureed food. . .Also, a crustless quiche is not too far from pureed. . .

OOps, sorry Veronica, I hadn't realize there were 2 postings of the same question, here's what I wrote on the other one.Hi there, Veronica!..... I had the greatest chef staying with me after surgery, my Mom! She dreamed up clever combos that I didn't want to give up. She made black beans and LF mexican cheese, pureed broccoli with LF cheddar cheese, pureed chicken w/ mashed potatoes, pureed pinto beans with pureed rice. It's all super easy, all I saw her do was stick it in the blender till it was mashed and measure out and serve. I know it may not be very useful, but I was never bored on my pureed phase. Vi
