Egg beaters with shredded cheese (high protein, low carb), with mushrooms or whatever else you'd like to add in; Hormel Turkey-"No Bean" chili (also high protein, low carb); Veggie Burgers with tofu cheese (also high protein, low carb, some fat). With sides of broccoli florets, green beans, etc.

For breakfast, I usually eat oatmeal (I buy the instant and I do eat the flavored kind apples & cinn. - my dietician says is okay because I don't eat the whole packet) or have an small egg w/ 1 pc. toast. I also get the fat free eggo waffles and put a little peanut butter for protein on it and use sf syrup, I can eat half of the waffle. For lunches I have Lean Cuisine meals or WW meals, I usually only eat a portion of them, but they are low in fat and calories and high protein. Or I'll have half a ham sandwich on toast. I use the Wonder Lite bread w/ Lite Miracle Whip. I also use the small (comes in 4 pack) of the canned Lite Fruit cups to round things out or I'll have a veggie. Again, only eating what feels comfortable portions. And for dinner, I eat the same thing my family eats --- whatever I cook. We've had spaghetti, fish sticks, mac & cheese, salisbury steak, swiss steak, etc. I cook for them like I did pre-op, I just eat way less than before and always start w/ my protein. I have a hard time with snacks -- I usually don't eat any because I don't know what to have. I can't stand any diary products (that's why I have to have my egg w/ toast). My dietician says snacks should be high protein like lf yogurt, lf cottage cheese, lf cheese, cup of skim milk, etc. -- all stuff I hate. But hope this helps you.

I listed on my profile typical days for 4 1/2, 9 months, and 18 months out. I usually build my meals around protein. If you don't have any food intolerances, it shouldn't be too hard to create meals. I eat anything and everything (except high sugar or fried) as long as it has good protein content. :)

I had my RNY on 10/8/02. For breakfast, I fix a protein drink and usually have a boiled egg or a piece of string cheese right after I drink that (at the advice of my surgeon). For lunch I have some kind of protein--yesterday I was craving a taco, so I got one hard taco at Taco Bell with just meat and cheese. I broke off the top half of the shell, ate about 1/2 of the bottom shell with the meat and cheese. I couldn't eat any more of the shell and it was hard, but I did manage to eat the rest of the meat and cheese. I ate a few sunflower kernels yesterday afternoon, but I try to stay away from the nuts usually because of the high fat content. For supper, I ate some chunky soup and a couple of crackers, but I usually eat some kind of meat. My prealbumin level was low last time it was checked, so I have really been concentrating on getting more protein. I also have a sugar free popsicle at night to help with getting my fluids in. I cooked up a bunch of meat over the weekend and froze it in small portions for me and larger portions for my family. I am meeting friends for lunch at Wendy's today and will have about 1/3 of the chicken from a grilled chicken sandwich. Hope that helps!

I stick to the basics in cooking dinner, as much as possible. Meaning that I will grill steaks, chops or boneless chicken breasts, make an occasional meatloaf or batch of meatballs. With that I'll fix whatever side dish my man is hungry for...taters, rice, pasta etc. and then I eat maybe a tablespoon or 2 of those. But I focus on the meat (protein) and a veggie first. I find that marinating the meat makes it far more tender(tolerable) and adds flavor. When my hubby and son are having one of their favorite high fat, high carb meals like Hamburger Helper(!), I usually fix myself a salad with lean meat or some of the imitation crabmeat, or even just some cottage cheese w/mandarin oranges. For breakfast I will usually have oatmeal or a Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt or maybe just a No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast. I've found that eggs, even the Eggbeaters, just don't seem to agree with me anymore -- I'll eat a couple of bites then it just doesn't taste good to me. As far as oatmeal goes, I make the regular(plain) instant oatmeal in the microwave, then add 1 packet of Splenda as well as 2 tsp. of Polaner All Fruit or Smucker's Simply Fruit, plus a splash of milk....yummy! I've also recently discovered the Nutrition for Women Oatmeal in Vanilla Cinnamon...very tasty. But this is a bit higher in sugars, not much, but I tolerate it very well at 5 months post-op. For lunches I rely on either soup, salads or a lunchables with the meat and cheese only. I'm just now tolerating small amounts of bread but want to beware of the carb-demon until I'm at goal. Good Luck! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -93lbs.

I eat whatever I want. Today I am having one/half a cup of franks and beans. I cannot tolerate noodles or fat, but sugar is ok. I am eating what my family is eating for the most part. Smaller portions and lots of leftovers. I have good tolerances overall, so this works out for me. I have an appt. with the nutritionist on the 19th. We'll see what she says about it and I'll post it then.

I get most of my ideas from allrecipes.com. You can search by type of meat if you are trying to find recipes for meats. The recipes are rated by users and even offer other tips to improve the dish. I used it a lot early post-op when I had a hard time with meats and needed crock pot recipes that tend to keep the meat very moist. The chicken and dumplin recipe in the crock pot is great and super easy. Great chili recipes too. Bon Apetite'!!

I've had the same breakfast for months now and am not tired of it yet-pure protein too- 1 scrambled egg with 1/2 slice of melted provolone topped by 1 tablespoon of veggie chili. YUM! Also, make a large pot of bean soup with lots of veggies in it and add shredded chicken breast. It lasts a while and is also full of protein. Makes a good lunch or dinner or even snack. For dinner I usually grill some fish or chicken or steak with a veggie, or a Lean Cuisine minus the carb. Lately I have also been craving chili (I love Burger Kings chili!!) and I add shredded cheese to it. You can also make your own chili and use ground turkey instead of beef.

I buy large quantity packs of chk breast, filet mignon or reg.steak, chops, turkey burgers, etc. When I get home and pack 1 meat per baggie then throw all the bags into a larger bag so they dont get freezer burnt. I'll pull a piece of meat out when I need it (I live alone),and throw it(frozen)on my George Foreman grill. Then I spoon some BBQ sauce on some or use some special spices. I get my protein this way the most often. I also buy "Kids Kitchen" by Hormel. They are little microwable tubs of beans'n'frank, chili, ravioli. They are not really high fat (9gr). Protein from 9-13gr and some days I can almost eat the entire tub and other days not. They taste good. And if I have family over for a big meal I'll use my grill again and make grilled salmon or orange roughy, and have veges and/or salad. I use fruit, bananas & oranges as my snacks.

tomato & basil pizza veggie burger from morningstar grilled on the george forman grill then place the burger on a cookie sheet and spoon marinara sauce on it and cover with mozzerella cheese(just like a pizza only you are using the veggie burger for the crust) shove in the oven at 425 until cheese melts. it's really good. For breakfast I take black forest ham lunch meat and swiss cheese and make an omellette using the eggbeaters southweatern flavor for an extra kick. The only problem is both my dogs are getting fat because it's hard to make a really small omellette. for quick ideas I take deli meat and a slice of cheese and roll together and eat it dipped in mustard with no bread. My fish counter in the supermarket sells already cooked Alaskan King crab legs individually so I just buy one and put it in a pot with about an inch of water and steam it until it's hot and eat with no butter. These are a couple little tricks for high protein meals but mostly I just started cooking regular meals for my husband and ate what I could. Example would be grilled porkchops with teriyaki ot BBQ sauce and a salad ( I love the wishbone just 2 grams dressings you can't tell they are low fat) I try to avoid the white starches like pasta, potato, rice and bread but now at almost 9 months out I will have those things occasionally just not all the time. I'm down 153lbs from 332lbs to 180lbs and still lose 2 to 4 lbs per week. I exercise 5 times per week cardio and 3 times per week on weights. I hope some of these meal Ideas help you out. Good Luck Alison
