Question:
Any body out there had a G-feeding tube put in can help me with pain.
I had a second surgery due to complications and they put in a gastric feeding tube in and it hurts all the time. It's painful especially when I try to lie down and it painful when I walk. The doctor took the stitches out to relieve the tenderness but it still is very sore and painful and I can't seem to go very long with pain meds. What can I do to make it better? please help me!!!!!!!!! email me with advise [email protected] sheri burke — sheri B. (posted on December 5, 2002)

Maybe it is possible to discuss having it removed. Alot has to do with how
long it was intended to be there for. Good Luck

I to have a gastric feeding tube with a drainage bag, attached during
surgery on 11/26/02, (which I can remove and plug during the day), but
reconnect anytime I feel bloated or sick (which I hate to say has been alot
so far.) Without this tube with it's drain I believe I would have been
vomiting a great deal, and been a great deal more miserible than I have
been. The tube site has been very painful, with some drainage around it.
But if you keep it clean and bandaged, it should'nt cause too many
problems. Walking is really the best way to help reduce the pain with this
tube. The tube is nasty but it is very helpful, and worth it. Plus it helps
keep a direct line to keeping you feed, in cause you can't eat yourself.
God bless you during this time.

Is your tube taped down well enough? Make sure it is anchored down
properly. It's normal for it to slide in and out a little bit, it is a
funny, sort of icky feeling but you shouldn't be very painful. Make sure
it's not red and angry looking and doesn't have any drainage at the
insertion site. Mine was the worst at night because it would slide in and
out with each respiration. I don't know how long you have had it in but if
severe pain continues I would contact my doctor. Good Luck
