Question:
Antibiotic absorption post-op
After surgery, I developed a sinus infection. My Dr. gave me a round of Tequin for 10 days, but it didn't clear up the infection. Does anyone know how antibiotics are absorbed and if there are some specific tricks to getting them to work post-op? — JoAnn B. (posted on November 22, 2002)

After 2 rounds of antibiotic pills that the doc gave me for a sinus
infection that did not clear up, they gave me injections- one a day for
about 5 days. That did the trick!

I had to take antibiotics when my drain site became infected after surgery.
I took liquid stuff, but I don't remember the name! It worked well though,
so I would try getting some liquid stuff.

JoAnn,
Good question, doctor gave me the Zithromaz, the Z-pack, 5 day pill for a
cold and ear infection, I wonder if it's absorbed at 100 % since it tablet
and not capsule....
I wonder what the best thing that she can prescribe that will not hurt us ,
or our livers and work to kick but on the colds...
It's winter and colds are in season !!!

I was recently hospitalized for cellulitis because the oral meds weren't
getting absorbed enough. IV antibiotics were required. However, with my
most recent surgery, my doc coudlbed the dose of my oral antibiotic in an
attempt to get it to a therapeutic level, but I broke out in hives. so, at
this point, I am not sure what the scoop is...I guess it depends on the
point of absorption, stomach or small intestine and how long it spends in
each place.

my incision became infected because i have an adhesive allergy & my
surgeon used steri-strips on me. i am also allergic to certain antibotics
so that limited what my dr could give me. he cultured the infection &
then had the lab test the culture with different antibiotics to find which
ones would work best in killing the bacteria. out of a choice of 4 meds, i
was not allergic to only one. he then prescribed double the usual dose
because of my 'malabsorption' from the wls. it took almost 3 mos of meds
& cleansing the infected area with anti-bacterial soap & applying
neosporin ointment 3x a day before it was completely healed. i now have the
beginning & end of a beautiful scar, but, the center, where the
infection was is as ugly as can be. oh well, i never planned on wearing
bikinis anyway lol.
