Question:
What is my first step to finding out if I can have the surgery using my insurance?

I just called my insurance and asked. They told me that they cover the
surgery if it was found to be medically necessary. I didn't get the list of
"got to haves" until after my surgeon had sent all my paperwork
asking for official approval. Then, they faxed back a list of things that
they required to be able to review my case...like a psychiatric review, my
PCP doctor's approval and healthy history, etc. I've heard that some
insurances don't require all of that and some require more than mine...so
when you call and ask them, see if they'll give you their list of
documents/approvals that they need.
