Question:
How much food are you eating or did eat when 4 weeks post-op.

What did you use to measure your food? What and how much did you have during a typical day? Did you weigh your food or did you measure it?    — curiousjane (posted on November 13, 2002)

Took my 3 mths to eat what seems to be enough to keep me strong. The first 3 mths, I could not get my 65-70 grams of protein in a day. I am now loosing my hair because of it too. I just could not eat more than a few bites of anything at a time. I would have to try to eat constantly so I could get food in me. Now, I can eat almost an entire sandwich at once. I now actually have to start watching what I eat cause I do not really dump with sugar and fat. Only if taken in large amounts. So here I am postop and feeling like I am dieting again. I have 23 more lbs to go and until I get that off I'm really staying on the lower end of the caloric intake.

I am 4 weeks post op and I can eat small portions of just about everthing. If I have soup I can eat a whole cup, but something more substantial will have to be less. Tried salmon and it made me barf..my hubby made it special for me and I guess my tummy just wasnt ready. Will have to wait longer. But in general I feel like I have been able to eat a fair amount of things..at times I almost feel like I can eat too much so i still feel like I need to watch it until i establish new habits...good luck..aloha Keniki

I am 3 1/2 weeks out. I am eating between 5-650 calories a day (about a week ago it was more like 400, but as I've added foods, its grown)... and am actually curious about whether (calorically) this is the right amount. In any event, I usually have a protein shake in the morning, 2 oz. of cottage cheese and 2 oz. of tuna for lunch, and for dinner I'll have 2-4 oz. of some sort of high protein food -- chili, refried beans, egg with cheese, etc. If I have a snack its either string cheese or cottage cheese. I have tried adding fruit but it appears that I am extremely sensitive to sugar -- I dumped after two watermelon balls! My nutritionist says to try again in a week with fruit. I know that my diet isn't perfect yet -- I need to add vegetables, but I only really like raw vegetables, and I'm not there yet. If you'd like, I've been keeping a fitday journal, and if you email me, I'll send you the info so you can check it out. I've been averaging between 70-80 g. of protein, so I think I'm doing alright. Good luck!

Protein, protein, protein. I ate 1/4 cup of meat(anything except steak)3 times a day, occasionally switching for an egg or peanut butter. I tried to eat all protein even though I drink a protein shake. I still do. Sometimes I have pinto beans but I always eat 1/4 cup. Best of luck to you! Open RNY 8/12/02 down 63 lbs

If I recall, at 4 weeks, I was eating soft scrambled eggs (1)with melted cheese( 1 slice) for breakfast, tunafish salad or crabsalad on 4 crackers for lunch, very soft (2 oz)chicken (crock pot with lots of liquids) with a soft mushy vegetable (few bites) for dinner. Also a protein shake every day.

I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op and have lost 41 lbs. I eat protein, protein, protein ... I eat tuna fish, crab legs with a little bit of margarine, white fish, salmon, shrimp, chicken, steak, peanuts, hot dogs (no bun) and protein shakes. I also eat a lot of sugar free popsicles, yogart, cottage cheese & lite peaches and watermelon, watermelon, watermelon to get some carbs in along with vegatables. I drink alot of Crystal Lite Lemonaid and tons of water. It seems to be working for me thus far.
