Question:
Hi. I was wondering if anyone started pre-op with short, baby fine hair.

Did you lose any of it post-op? And if so, was there anything you tried or did that slowed it or stopped it completely? I am only 1 month post-op and I just noticed some of my hair coming out. HELP!! I am so worried about going bald! Thanks!    — Heather H. (posted on November 5, 2002)

I have baby fine hair and not much of it, or so I thought. I am in the middle of my fifth month and my hair has been falling out since the beginning of the third month. Guess what? I still have hair so I must have had more than I thought. Early on I picked a wig out just in case and haven't ordered it so far. But here's the site (which is wonderful) www.manestreethair.com

My doc says no one has ever gone bald.. I have a firend in one of his patients who believes she will be the one.. *grin* I told her.. truthfully last month that it didn't look bad. I have short baby fine hair.. and yes, I've lost some.. now at the beginning to middle of month five. I've been taking hairs, skin, and nails formula since before surgery.. and getting all my protein and vitamins.. I don't think its stopped anything... I'm just hoping its a short time... but you know what? I'd do it bald.. its really so much better being 90+ pounds lighter...

I had short baby fine thinning hair as a pre-op. It started falling in much larger amounts out about three months post-op and hasn't stopped yet at 7 months out. I've done the nioxin/protein, vitamins regimen with little noticeable effect. While I can see my scalp more than I used to be able to, especially by the end of the day when my hair is oilier, most people do not notice my hair is thinner, possibly because I let it grow out and pull it all back over the top of my head with a hair band. I heard it is better not to stress it much by coloring or perms while losing it, so I've avoided doing so, but plan to go to a good salon and get a consultation and good cut/style as soon as the losses stop.

I am pre-op. I already have thinning hair due to a medication I take twice a day. I am taking the nutrients that are suggested for the hair loss that may follow surgery, as that will be due a different cause. For now I fake it with Pantene pro gel, the body builder type. It's low priced. When I use it I look like I have twice as much hair. If you are worried about it drying out your hair, you don't have to use it daily. If hair gets too full then change the setting on your blowdryer, next shampoo. Yesterday it was rainy, my hair puffed out so much my husband thought I had donned a wig.
