Question:
Should I tell that I have lost 45lbs?

I joined Weight Watchers in January of this year. And I have lost 45lbs. I have a BMI of 48. I really want WLS, should I tell the truth about losing 45lbs this year? It has been 4 1/2 months since I lost any more weight. Some advice please.    — Tammy P. (posted on October 17, 2002)

Tammy, First of all, congratulations on your weight loss. BUT, with a BMI of 48, the 45 pounds is but a drop in the bucket....as you know. AND, how many diets have you lost 45 pounds on and then gained it all back?? You may want ot discuss this with your surgeon, but he may chose not to offer the information to the insurance comapny. And keep on losing, the more weight you get off preop, the easier the surgery is on you. Good Luck...and keep up the good work!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! To do that all by yourself is an accomplishment. Lord knows I couldn't do it. That is why I opted for surgery. In 7 1/2 weeks, I have lost 45 pounds. I now have a BMI of around 48. I have only noticed my weight loss in my neck and face. I have only noticed the weight loss on the rest of my body because my clothes are fitting better. It id true, however, that 45 pounds in the whole scheme of thins is not very much. I have 200 to lose. It is almost a 1/4, but it is not enough to be very noticable yet. Talk to your surgeon about it if you are really concerned.

I would definately tell them about the weight loss. When i filled out the packet for my surgeon, they had two pages that asked details about which diets I have been on, what gyms I have been a member of, what diet drugs I have taken, medically supervised diets, etc., which they eventually sent to the insurance company. I was approved by my insurance (AETNA) the first time within weeks. From what I hear the more diets you have been on, the better. We have all tried many diets and lost weight, it's that we cannot keep the weight off is what the problem is for many of us, and teh eventual regain! So I would be honest. Goodluck to you!
