Question:
Can I change hospitals?

I have a verbal authorization from my surgeon's office (it was a message on my phone, so I haven't been able to speak to anyone). My understanding is that I have been approved for a hospital that the surgeons office and insurance agreed on. I was wondering if I can ask for a different hospital without affecting my approval? The hospital I want is on my plan and I know that my surgeon operates their to. The hospital is only about 4 miles from my house, compared to the other hospital thats about 20 miles away (and a lot of traffic). It would be so close for my husband to come and go as he pleases. And we are familiar with this hospital because my sister had her lap RNY their too (with the same surgeon). Should I ask?    — Jessica Hernandez (posted on October 9, 2002)

Absolutely you should ask. Does this surgeon perform this procedure at the hospital you want? If so, the insurance part shouldn't be a problem as long as this hosp is in your plan.
