Question:
Is 1500 MCG's of B-12 too much?
I just purchased Sundown B-12, but it's 1500 mcg. By the way if it matters I'm RNY. Thanks!! — Kristina P. (posted on October 8, 2002)

Kristina, I'm not real sure if it is the same but I take 1000 ml by
injection every other day (I'm weaning down to once every 3 weeks) and I
take 500 mg by mouth daily also, which totals 1500, so I'd think you were
OK.

My nutritionist says that we should either take 500mcg daily sublingually
or 1000mcg monthly. It seems like the previous poster is taking way too
much B-12.

I really hope that its not. I take GNC 1500 mcg twice a day. What happens
if you are taking too much? I have never even thought about that. I
figured that since we only absorb so much that if I take two of everything
different times of the day that I would be getting in my daily nutrition.
God Luck.

I take 1000 mcg sublingual evry morning and my labs came back alittle high.
My surgeon and nutritionist told me it wouldn't hurt me to be high and to
keep taking the same dose EVERY DAY. I think your labs would tell whether
it's way too much or not.

B12 is water-soluble. Whatever your body doesn't use, you eliminate in your
urine. I take 1000 mg "daily" but if I forget a dose, no biggie.

I am 7 months post-op Lap RNY -105lbs (-153lbs total) I take 5000mcg of
sublingual B12 about twice a month. My results have always been normal and
I feel great!

From what my family dr has said, you don't need to worry about Overdosing
on
B-12. (At least being reasonable), because it is a water soluable vitamin.
If you get too much, you simply urinate it out. So getting a little more
than
recommended isn't going to hurt you. I take 2 1000 mg's B-12 a day and am
doing great.
