I had a small degree of that but the majority of my numbness was in my left
thigh. Drove me nuts. It's nerves that are pinched during surgery by the
way they lay you on the table. Mine is all gone now and I'm 7 weeks
post-op.

I had the same thing...I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and it finally went away a
few days ago. It made sleeping very uncomfortable for a while. Hang in
there!!

When I woke up from surgery, I had two numb heels, a numb thigh and a numb
tailbone. Mine was worse than normal because my surgery lasted 6 hours. Doc
said it was mainly from being strapped to the table and such. Then my
tailbone didn't get any better by lying in the hospital bed for 6 days. it
is just a side effect of surgery. I am 5 weeks post-op and most of it has
gone away. All but the thigh and a little numbness in my heel and rear end.
You just have to be patient because it just has to go away with time.

Wait until you lose weight and there's no padding back there. Then you'll
REALLY feel the pain!! I am CONSTANTLY repositioning myself every few
minutes because my tailbone hurts so bad. All my body weight in on my
tailbone when I sit, so I have to sit on one cheek or the other and then
they get numb. Would I trade the pain for my extra large wide butt that I
no longer have, HECK NO!!!!!!!!!

i have experienced this after two life changing events. The 1st was the
birth of my daughter in '99...i had an epidural and for months after i
experienced the numbness followed by extreme pain. it was almost impossible
to sit at my desk a full day. The second time was after the surgery. I had
lap rny 04/04/02 and i still have this problem now. On long car rides, and
sometimes just during the day at my desk, i find myself in angst over the
ache of my tailbone.

I had numbness on the top of my left thigh that is still there 8 months
post-op. I have had a few other surgeries with similar results, numbness
in certain areas that does not go away. Its permanent nerve damage, tho,
most who experience this do not have permanent, just temporary damage.

I had a "numb" but for 4 weeks! It was terrible. I thought my
feeling in my behind would never come back. It sounds like it is not all
that uncommon though. Try to lay on your side if you can...that is what I
did. Laying on my back just made it worse. Good Luck! (open RNY 7/23/02 -60
lbs)
