What are retention sutures?

Hi I had retentions sutures, and they went underneath the skin and under the staples from side to side. They used a rubber tubing on the top of my stomach, to prevent them from digging into my skin. I am so glad that the doc did that, I had no problems healing. Good Luck Susan
