Question:
Does anyone know the different closing methods of sectioning the stomach?

Ive heard stapling that's what my surgeon recomends, with sewing also. Dr Marema Ft LAuderdale fl. But somebody said stapling was no good after 10 years and that it could leak or something????????    — anna M. (posted on September 26, 2002)

My surgeon sews only. Not as many surgeons sew as do staples because it is a very technically challenging thing to do, but all of the research I did preop (and I am a Medical Librarian so I had access to a LOT of research) said that hand-sewing has less complications because staples can misfire and cause leaks and other problems. But I'm sure that a lot of people on this site had staples and did well. Ask your surgeon what his complication rate is. If he is good, he won't mind telling you! Good Luck!
