Question:
I AM 3 WEEKS AND I DRINK WATER.....
LIKE I DID BEFORE SURGERY. I CAN GULP DOWN A FEW DRINKS AND IT DOESN'ST HURT. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG HERE OR WHAT? — Gale G. (posted on September 25, 2002)

I don't know if you have something wrong of not. At three weeks post-op, I
wouldn't have attempted to gulp water. In fact, my surgeon made me promise
not to. However, I am now 10 months post-op and can drink pretty fast.
Sometimes, though, I still get too much too fast and the pain is very bad
for a few minutes.
I would suggest that you try to slow down and sip constantly instead of
taking severa gulps. It will be much better for you.

I am almost 12 wks out and for my first few weeks I could only sip. Then
one day at about 3 weeks out I was able to gup water.......I LOVE IT!! One
of the things I worried about before surgery is that I wouldn't be able to
gulp water again. I did speak to my surgeon about it and he said as long
as my pouch feels ok and doesn't hurt or feel overstuffed I would be ok
taking a few gulps at once.....YEEEHAAAA!! 7/5/02 Open RNY start weight

I am 17 months postop, down 100#. I cannot stand to gulp water..it hurts
and makes me feel a kind of nausea. Why does one like to gulp? Is there an
advantage to gulping? I am confused about this...

I am 3 weeks post-op and I drink water like I did before surgery too. I
talked to my doctor about it and he was not concerned due to the fact that
I wasn't experiencing any discomfort. Everybody is different and if you
are able to drink and not sip, then that might just be a good thing!
