Question:
I am 8 months post op and have experienced 2 major episodes of abdominal pain that
radiates around my right side into my back. The pain attacks have been excruciating and have lasted approximately 4 hours. My PCP thinks I am having spasms as a complicated related to changes in my body from RNY. My PCP does not think I am developing problems with my gall bladder. I am going to make an appointment to see a gastric specialist, but in the mean time, I would appreciate any information and opinions anyone can offer. Thanks. — Judith A. Sounds exactly like a gall bladder attack to me. I had to have mine out 2
years ago after I had my daughter. The pain started on my right side and
went around my back, felt like a vice grip around my rib cage. Labor was a
piece of cake compared to those darned gall bladder attacks! I am also a
nurse, and this is typical pain most people have with cholecystitis (the
official word). Ask your PCP for a ultrasound of your GB, and if that is
neg, ask for a HIDA scan. Many times the HIDA will be positive if the
ultrasound isn't. Sometimes we have to be proactive in regards to our
health care. After all, it's you that's in the pain. Good luck!

I too had my gall blaader out after an attack . It sounds just like the
pain that I had prior to the "big one!" Go to your Dr's an insist
that they check you for this because if it does go on you , it can be the
worse pain in your life . This is coming from a woman who had 4 C-section
and who knows all about "pain" . Get it checked .
