I am 67 yrs old and 8 months out from an rny LAP.
I also was concerned about "above average age" I had three
surgeons evaulate me - and I have COPD and apnea (been on cpap fpr 5 yrs)
And low blood oxygen. One surgeon said no problem-another said he prfes his
wls patients be able to wal to the table for surgery (his sense of humor is
interesting!) and the last and my present surgeon - when I asked him if he
was "afraid of me" - meaning too much risk - he just asked me if
I had taken a good look at the waiting room - (this was at Mayo Clinic -
so many chairs filled with oldies. All he asked of me was to "make
HIM proud a year after surgery".
He is young also and took rigerous wls training. It sounds like your
surgeon will have good assistance also and I hope you get a lap!
I had no complications - never have thrown up etc. Good drugs so no pain
to even speak of.
90 lbs off - I am a bit of a slow loser - but constant- and exercise
several times a week a health club-and that sure helps to break any
plateaus. Good luck with the thyroid - hope that doesn't make any
difference - My aches and medications have improved greatly-still on cpap
but not much.
You will be a new woman!
