Question:
Does anyone have problems eating the same foods at different times of day?
Im 5 weeks post-op. I've noticed this wierd food thing. I'll eat a meat product (chicken breast, porkchop or beef steak) in the evening and everything is fine. The next day, I'll take leftovers to the office to eat for lunch... and I cant seem to get it down! I'll take 2 bites and feel really nauseated, mouth starts watering, and all I want to do is vomit - but I cant!! Im miserable for a good 15 minutes.. and by the end of that 15 min - who wants to eat anything? This happened with chicken this afternoon, yet I was able to eat it 5 hours later just fine. Im wondering if it has anything to do with the time of day - like my body cant process anything heavy before the evening mealtime. — Valerie H. (posted on August 10, 2002)

Wow, I'm not crazy! =} Yeah, same thing happens to me. I was thinking
that maybe the meat gets dried out overnight and then more when we re-heat
it. Maybe it makes it drier and therefore harder to digest. Either that,
or I'll go with the theory that things are just harder to tolerate earlier
in the day. I can't even stand plain water when I get up in the morning,
so maybe we just need to give our pouch nicer food until it wakes up. Or
something. Who knows? At least I'm not nuts! LOL

Hi, I have had the same thing happen. I finally discovered it only happened
when I tried to eat a leftover and rewarmed meat. I can eat any meat
freshly prepared, but when reheated I think it is just to dry to settle
well. I did discover that if you add like b-b-que or teryaki sauce when
recooking it makes it more moist.

Valerie, meat is a tough one for new post-ops and you are still a new
post-op. Some post-op take many more months before they can handle meat.
Early on when I was post-op I had some of the same problems, but was able
to eat more for dinner than breakfast or lunch. I also found that
reheating meats, unless I drenched them in some kind of sauce, they became
too dry to settle well. I'm 6 months post-op and that sometimes still
happens to me if I forget to moisten the reheated meats.

I have noticed so many different things about when and what I eat.
Sometimes things sound good and taste terrible. Other times, it is the
oppisite. I have notice mine has to do with the tempature of such foods.
Sometimes hot settles, sometimes cool works. It is just a guessing game
with me. I hope it kinda evens out withinthe next few months. But know
that you are not alone. You know the best thing that I have had settle at
anytime and made me feel great was meatloaf. I ate it for four days
straight and felt great and it tasted great. It is funny how our systems
work now, huh?, lol. Feel free toemail me if you have any questions!
Good Luck~ Candi
