Question:
Has anyone had to have a CT done on their kidneys?
I received a call from my dr.'s office saying that something appreared on my gallbladder ultrasound on my right kidney. I am going to have the CT done this morning and I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced any problems with their kidneys. Thanks — Mary P. (posted on August 6, 2002)

Mary, I had an ultra-sound done on my gall bladder a couple of years ago
and they found something on my right kidney as well. It turned out to be a
cyst, which for me, wasn't serious. Sometimes cysts form and then the body
reabsorbs them, according to my PCP. Sometimes they can be a much more
serious health threat. But, unless they are causing other problems, they
are usually left alone. You also could be showing a stone. The size and
type of stone would determine the treatment. I have had kidney stones
since my WLS and they formed because I am on a high protien diet and I
wasn't getting in enough water every day. Since then I have learned that
some of the foods we eat can increase the risk of developing kidney stones
because they increase the bodies ability to produce uric acid, which in
turn can cause the kidney's to develope kidney stones, such as in my case.
So, now I avoid those foods or don't consume as much of them as I did and I
make darned sure I am getting my water in daily. Try not to worry over much
and best of luck to you.
