Question:
Those who have had WLS @ OSU, please tell me...good or bad...

about your experience. I was all set to go to BTC, but my cardiologist wants me to go to a "complete" hospital in case I should need a cardiologist. WHich surgeon did you have? Tell me about your experience, please...whether it was good or bad.    — Gail G. (posted on August 4, 2002)

I didn't have my surgery at OSU because there were too many hoops to jump through (nutritional counseling, then psychiatric counseling before you ever get to see a doctor). You can spend 6 to 8 months just going through all the counseling to finally get in to see a doctor so by the time your scheduled for surgery, a year has passed. However, I have been to there support group meetings and I will say they are very informative and run professionally. If you don't mind waiting, the people did have there surgery at OSU seemed to rave about them. However, I raved about my doctor too after the surgery. I went to Mid Ohio Surgical and had Dr. Tim Custer perform my surgery and can't say enough good things about him. Let's face it, after successful surgery you forget about the pain you went through and are just happy your doing well.

Hi there! I have you admit i haven't had my surgery yet and i've been jumping through hoops for more than a year now!! i'm at the very very final stages wher ei can actually see a surgeon and get things set up..but i'm still looking at probably november for a surgery date..which frustrates me to know end, HOWEVER, if you ARE willing to wait awhile i would definately recommend it BECAUSE osu is exceptional when it comes to really making sureyou know ALL the in's and outs and makes sure you know how to live after surgery. so in that respect iw oudl recommend it.

I had surgery January 11th, 2002 and have gone from 317 to 204 as of today, August, 5, 2002. I feel the OSU Comprehensive Weight Program is terrific. I have received unlimited education, support, and total dedication from the staff involved. Dr. Charles Cook was my surgeon and he was great. He is a general surgeon and that was good for me as I have had so many health problems including heart attacks, and mini strokes etc. While I was waiting to get surgery I thought just do the darn thing and let me get skinny. But now almost 7 months post op I am so thankful for the education that has led to my success. Regardless of who does your surgery remember it is a tool and you must listen to your Dr. and all those involved as they know your circumstances and will guide you to success and new health. God bless to you with your journey. Sincerely, Janice
