Question:
co-pay at Bariatric treatment centers

I have insurance with a co-pay and am waiting for approval on surgery through Bariatric treatment center of Ypsilanti. Does anyone know out there if they require co-pay at time of surgery? Or might they have a pay plan?    — Kate D. (posted on August 1, 2002)

I went to the Bariatric Treatment center in columbus ohio and they do offer a payment plan after surgery.

I just had my surgery through BTC (6/18/02) and they did not require or even mention paying my co-pay portion prior to surgery. BTC's bill has not been submitted to my insurance yet however the Hospital charges and Anest. bill all have and by the time those added up I met my maximum out of pocket for the year and I will be making payments to them on a monthly basis. I predict that even if there was something due to BTC that I would do the same as with the Hospital. It is possible that thier charge was included in the surgery bill recieved from the hospital which was $33,000.00 plus $1550.00 for the anesthesia Dr. You need to verify what your percentage is and how much out-of pocket max you have per year if your policy has such a plan. My advice is don't worry about that part of it at all right now - Because your portion will be nothing compared to the total billed to insurance.

I had surgery at BTC in Illinois in March 21st of this year. They were going to bill me my copay. My insurance paid about two months back and I still have not received a bill. At my last visit I asked and they said my account was taken care of. I don't know how and they told me not to worry about it. I thought I was going to have to pay $600.00 but I paid $0.00 for my surgery. And I would have paid full price for the surgery if my insurance did not cover it. They did tell me they would accept a payment plan for copay. Insurance if they approve generally pays them the majority so I don't think they are as worried about the little amount you will owe. I also went to Bariatric Treatment Centers of Columbus, OH and they DO NOT require you to pay your co-pay first. They will set up a convenient payment plan for whatever your insurance does not cover. Good luck, Christina
