Question:
I am going through pre op preparations, evaluations and tests and
had a real set back last week. I was told that the psychologist I went to see about my psych evaluation recommended that I go to a psychiatrist to have another evaluation for severe depression and anxiety. I am going thru NeWeigh in Houston, TX and have felt mixed emotions. I liked the Dr I chose, Dr. Jayakumar and the poeple I met at NeWeigh seemed very incouraging at first, but I seem to be getting a little bit of the cold shoulder lately. I called a couple of days ago to ask a couple of questions of consern and the person I spoke with seemed to be rushing me and not really that compassionate. Bottom line is I was wondering if there is anyone else in the Houston area who has gone thru NeWeigh and can tell me there experience with them. Also does anyone know of a good psychiatrist in the Houston area? — Mary P. (posted on July 31, 2002)

I had something similiar happen to me, the psychiatrist I met with was very
rude and made unsuitable comments about the surgery and why people were
having it. He concluded that he would "ok" me to have the surgery
but then I was informed he wanted me to wait ANOTHER month and have me talk
with the programs nutritionist and dietician, then "maybe" I will
get a surgery date?! NOT, I am switching surgeons! If I had known ahead of
time that this man had that kind of authority I wouldn't have gone to that
surgeon. They tell us they are doing this so we are successful after the
surgery, don't they realize that we are adults and want to succeed also, we
just didn't decide out of the blue to have this done!
