Question:
I was reading the memorial pages yesterday and read where someone passed away several
months post-op who had appeared to be doing well. Cause of death was a ruptured bowel. Does anyone know what would cause this and is this very common????? — susan M. (posted on July 24, 2002)

Sounds like a freak occurrence to me. Most of the long term complications
are anemia or vitamin deficiencies--which are preventable with a healthy
diet and supplementation. It's so sad when those things happen but they are
very rare. Usually when people have complications they show up pretty
quickly or are things that develop slowly (like gallstones).
