Question:
I need help finding a WLS PCP in Gainesville, GA!!

I have one week to file my insurance with my hubby's employer, and I still haven't found a WLS-friendly PCP in the area! I have a consultation date with Titus Duncan and need a referral first. If anyone in this area (Gainesville) knows of someone who is a good doc, please let me know either here, or at my private email address. Thanks so much!    — Jeralyn Merideth (posted on July 23, 2002)

Maybe you could go into "Find Peers"(look under see all list, then scroll down to Gainesville, click on a name and that person's profile will come up. Now you could Email a few get feedback from them. I checked out several profiles to see if anyone mentioned the name of their PCP, no luck. But I did notice that most all used doctors in Gainesville, C. Daniel Procter M.D. and Robert L. Richard M.D. - Phone number 770-534-0110 - call their office, I bet they could tell you the named of a WLS friendly PCP. Hope this helps! Jo-Dee

I used Dr Procter in Gainesville, GA. He is a highly respected surgeon throughout the country. I think he has a Public Information meeting on August 6th. He also has a support group meeting on August 3rd. He has a web page: http://vdos.org/. If you have any additional questions look at my page and email me.

I also forgot the part about a PCP WLS-friendly. My PCP is Dr Mark Crick in Cumming. He is with Chattahoochee Internal Medicine. Their number is 770 205-1294. He is very satisfied with my progress, 108# in 4 months and 4 days. Good luck

Hi! Original poster here. I managed to find a WLS-friendly PCP on the first try!! His name is Philip Marler and practices from the Longstreet Clinic here in Gainesville. His specialty is Internal Medicine and he came highly recommended. According to the person I spoke with, he has just recently refered 8 or 9 people to various surgeons for gastric bypass. There is even a woman who is part of the staff that had WLS last year and has gone from 400# to approximately 240#! I'm told he is savvy on post-op issues and I feel I'm so blessed to have found him! Anyway, I know that the "proof is in the pudding" so I'll see for myself when I see him on August 12th. Wish me luck!

You also have two other options, A. call the surgeons office and ask them for a list of pcp that refer to them, and b. call the patient relations representative from your insurance company. I did not personally ask my PCP's advice, I merely called and asked for the referral by stating that "I had decided to pursue WLS" Good luck! Wendy
