Question:
I was wondering in what way your body is affected
if you do not consume enough protein over long periods of time. I know several post-ops who do not worry much about their protein intake and I would like to know what kind of health issues they might have to face in the future. — Kelly M. (posted on July 21, 2002)

I can only share with you what my dr shared with me. She said to be
careful of "overdoing" the protein..because too much protein can
"pound the kidneys" and cause problems. She suggested no more
than 60 grms of protein a day of regular protein, but i dont think pre
digested protein (protein drinks, suppliments) will hurt the kidneys like
that. Good luck jacki

The previous post is correct, however I want to add what I have been told.
If you don't get enough protein in, your body will burn muscle instead of
fat for fuel. If it continues for a long period of time it can also effect
your heart because the heart is also a muscle. I was told to get 60 grams
per day also.
