Question:
Could you please let me know if you have United Healthcare?
And if so how is or was your experience.....my experience has been wonderful but I was just curious if my experience was a fluke....I have friends that are inquiring about surgery and I dont want them to just take my experience and be excited and then not have a good experience....please let me know....Thank you — Jenna M. I have United Healthcare Select Plus POS and my service was excellent. I
had more trouble out of the hospital, trying to get them to send the letter
out. I had to pick up the letter from the hospital and drive it over to the
insurance office. Once they received it, I was notified of the approval
within 48 hours. I was extremely pleased with their service.

I have United Healthcare PPO, and my experience was great!! I had no
problems getting approved, and they have paid 90% of my surgery cost.
Excellent policy and very nice people to deal with.

I have United Healthcare Options and they were very good. There was a hold
up of about 2 weeks so keep calling and checking so the paperwork is sure
to keep flowing through the channel. As a whole they were great! Good luck
to you and your friends!

I have United Healthcare Select Plus POS, and they were wonderful! At my
local support group meetings, we all talk about how United is the BEST when
it comes to approving this surgery. Look at my profile for more.

I have United Healthcare PPO. My surgeon's office submitted for approval on
a Friday and I got the call the following Monday. Tell your friends to bear
in mind that although this insurance is a breeze to deal with sometimes,
that is they approve quickly, they need to find out their particular
employer's exclusions with this insurance. If the company is self-insured,
that means if the company asks for the exclusion, they can get it. I worked
for 7 years for a self-insured company and was denied 3 times. Then, while
I was waiting for a lawyer to take my case to get the denial overturned,
they switched to an insurance that had an outright exclusion, iron-clad.
That was when I made my choice and went out and got another job where I
knew people that had had the surgery and had no problems with approval. I
was shocked at how easy it was. Of course, I make $3.00 less per hour, but
it is worth it to me, (especially since I spend far less on food!)

I too have UHC Select POS and they were fabulous. I had surgery at BTC and
they are, of course, out of network. When the bill was presented, they
negotiated it down a couple of thousand and paid in full, so I had no
out-of-pocket at all. One week between submission for surgery approval and
approval. Highly recommend!

WOW! I guess I'm going to be the first one to say my experience with UHC
wasn't the best at all. United is my secondary insurance, it's provided
through my husbands job with the railroad. My primary insurance (BCBS OF
ND) covered 90% of my surgery. United Healthcare had told me over the
phone on at least 3 separate occasions that my surgery would be covered--in
fact, they even called me at work to ask me if I wanted someone to come
into my home after surgery to care for me. I figured I was covered for
that other 10%. Not only did they NOT pay, but they also refused to pay
for my echocardiogram that I had to have due to phen-fen use. The reason
for that? First, they did pay on it (the 10%, which was about $67), then
they requested the money back. I asked them why they paid then requested a
refund, and they FIRST told me that they had OVERPAID on someone else's
account at the hospital I had the echo done, so they needed to get SOME
money back. (WHAT?!) And this person they 'overpaid' on...NO ONE I
KNOW! Not a family member, nothing. THEN they told me that my insurance
had paid something like $400 or so, and the total bill was close to $600,
but my provider gets a discount. They have it documented how much my
insurance paid (the lady I spoke to told me how much my ins. actually paid)
and then they proceeded to tell me that they wouldn't pay for the echo
because my primary ins. paid for all of it. Which they KNEW wasn't true.
United Healthcare insurance has been a nightmare for me, and my husband
will be changing to BCBS when he can in January. Keep in mind, this was my
secondary insurance. When they were my primary insurance, I didn't have
any problems with them, other than them not paying for my daughter's
anesthesia when she had to have a tooth removed.

I haven't had surgery yet, but expect it to be covered 100% with exception
of $100 copay for inpatient hospital stay. My surgery was approved with
one phone call, hows that for fast. Its United Health Care Options PPO.
Hope this helps.
