Question:
Can I switch surgeons after getting approval?
I have aetna hmo and is waiting approval. If I get approved can I switch surgeons and if I get approved for open can I then get approved for lap? — Christine M. (posted on June 29, 2002)

I work for Humana HMO and it doesn't matter with us if someone switches
surgeons or the type of surgery. Just so long as the surgeon you are
switching to is contracted, and the new surgery you want to have has FDA
approval. Open and Lap both have FDA approval, it shouldn't matter at all!

I had no problems switching Doctors. I was approved at BTC in IL and then
found my Dr. in WI. All I did was called my ins. company (Wausau) and tell
them I wanted to switch providers. I was also approved for both open and
lap at the same time - ended up having open. Am now 6 weeks post-op down
45 lbs and feeling fantastic. Good Luck!!
