Question:
Why is my stomach recovering seemingly so fast?
I am one week post op. I ate one thin slice of turkey meat yesterday (all cut up but not pureed - I did chew it until it was disintegrated before swallowing), and I also ate a few teaspoons of ground meat in a sauce (not pureed - but I chewed thoroughly again.) I can eat a whole indivudial soup for one of cream of chicken soup, and I can eat a whole pot of diet yogurt. <p> I feel like I should be puking or nausious and it seems like I can eat a lot more than what I should be able to although I do get a sensation of fullness and I feel like I am satisfied afterwards. I take my time when I eat and let the food go down. But is this normal at one week post op? — Kelley F. (posted on June 19, 2002)

Hi there. I am 14 days post op and I have not yet encountered something
that didn't agree with me. I have been able to tolerate everything. I do
proceed with caution :-) My surgery was smooth sailing and no complications
thus far. So we should consider ourselves lucky :-) ~Diane~ -25 lbs. in
14 days :-)

I was the same way. I am 4 1/2 Weeks post now and I have only gotten sick
twice, that's when I've ovefilled my pouch. I have tolerated everything
I've tried. That is why I have to be extra careful of the choices I make. I
want to break old habits not see how much I can get away with and in doing
so continue my "old life" of eating.

When you chew food that much (like you are supposed to)it is esentally
pureed <sp> The other food which you are mentioning is able to go
right through your stomach. You are doing fine. Good Luck

Kelley~ I was so glad to read your post. I have been the same way. I am
12 days post op and down 28 lbs. I have been able to eat anything that I
want. Last night I had a grilled cheese with out the crust and it was the
best sandwich ever, lol. I ate it about 16 tiny bites and took about 45
minutes to eat. I have been so woried that I am going to hurt some thing
inside but a friend told me that if I take it slow and it doesn't cause
pain, I am fine. I think the key is to chew, chew, chew. I feel like our
body can handle anything that we put into it as long as we are conscience
to how well we chew and the amount of time we take to eat. This is just my
opinion. Good Luck~

Kelly - I am like the previous posting....I too have had a great recovery
and can eat anything without getting sick. When I had my staples out the
Dr. even asked me "Have you thrown up yet?" He only lets us have
protein and then a few bites of veggies, so I have not ventured out to much
as far as variety. I stick to chicken, Pot Roast, Fish and ground meat. I
even can drink 64 to 100 oz's of water. I am so glad to know that someone
else is doing this good. I was afraid to say anything because I know that
others don't have it that easy. Good luck!!

I am the same way. I just keep saying how lucky I am!! I do get nauseaus
sometimes from my protein drinks, but food has been great with me, too. I
am 2 1/1 weeks post-op (LAP RNY) and down 28 pounds! You are doing great
taking your time and doing things slow! :)

I am one week post op. I haven't had any solids, but I have also wondered
why I can drink and drink without getting sick. I do sip all my liquids,
and have found that I am not really hungry. I was getting worried about
the fact that I was not bothered by my new stomach at all. It is nice to
hear someone else going through the same thing. Also, one week post op and
I don't even look as though I have had the surgery. I do get tired easily,
but that's it. There is some soreness, but no major pain... I was
beginning to wonder if maybe my surgen opened me up, but did't do the
procedure...lol
