Question:
Is it true that we don't absorb fat like the normies?
I'm LAP RNY and am unsure about this topic. Please advise. Thanks!!! — Kristina P. (posted on June 6, 2002)

Yes, it is true. The purpose of shortening the 'common channel' of small
intestine is to reduce the amount of intestine in which both food and
digestive juices such as bile (breaks down fats) are mixed. This is the
'malabsorption' component of both the DS and RNY surgery. We simply do not
absorb fats to the same degree as people without the surgery.
