Question:
Any experience on hypnosis for persistent strong food cravings?
I need help! I just had my one year anniversary of my surgery & I am so out of control with eating. I have a strong drive to eat eat eat & it's hard to control. I am no longer loosing weight; in fact my weight is yo-yoing by 10lbs. I lost about 120 or so lbs. & still have another 100 to go. I am so desperate to gain control that I'm thinking of checking myself into an in-patient center for eating disorders. I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't want my surgery to have been for nothing. I don't know if maybe I already ruined my surgery. I can now guzzle down liquids whereas before I couldn't; and I can eat large portions of food. Anyway, my dad mentioned hypnosis the other day & I was wondering if anyone tried it & if it really does work. Please - I hope there's someone out there who can understand what I'm going through. I don't need any negative comments. I get enough of that from myself. — lalasmommy (posted on May 24, 2002)

It DEFINITELY sounds like you may have bulimia. Many people think bulimia
involves vomiting, but that is not totally true. Some people with bulimia
have the very strong urges to binge ... urges that end in guilt and
self-hatred. Then they will try extreme measures (laxatives, vomiting,
WLS?, etc.) to get the weight off, because it feels so bad to be fat.
Please, talk to a counselor before it's too late and you regain all your
weight.
