Question:
I have a surgery date in a couple of weeks and I feel very alone.
Anybody got some extra support to spare? I am in the Marietta, GA area. — Georgia H. (posted on May 23, 2002)

Georgia, I am in Marietta, too. Keep your chin up! I assume you go to the
WLS support groups that Dr. Smith has on the third Thursday of the month?
Also, go to his "group" at Yahoo! Groups. It's
"Smith_ASG" when you sign in. You will find a lot of support
there. I was/am on the waiting list for Dr. Smith, but I understand it
could be next year before my surgery because there are around 400 people on
the list. I changed to Dr. Titus Duncan in Atlanta. He does lap RNY,
which is what I want. I just could not wait and I have heard good things
about Dr. Duncan. Email me if you want.

Hi Georgia, I just wanted you to know you are not alone :-).
You will go through many different emotions as you go through your weight
loss journey. I now have lost 100 lbs and I would do this over again in a
heart beat. I don't live near you, I am from KY, but you can e-mail me
anytime. I have found this web site to be very encouraging during down and
up times of my weight loss journey (((HUGS)))I will keep you in my prayers.

someone with skin on at times and I pray that you can find that person or
persons. Please feel free to e-mail me anytime you want to talk. I'm in
Columbus, OH so too far to come and give you a hug but I'm hugging you

I totally understand what you are saying. I am also scheduled for surgery
in a couple of weeks and I am feeling so anxious and alone. It is probably
a normal feeling. I am constantly thinking about if I am doing this for all
the right reasons and praying to God that everything goes well. This is a
decision we are making so I guess it is only natural we that we feel these
anxieties. Good luck.

Georgia, I know how you must feel (being alone). My mom was my biggest (no
pun intended) supporter (for WLS). She told my dad he was taking two days
off from work to watch my 9 year old niece, Carrie, so she could drive 3
hours to be here with me from May 15 through May 19th. Then I got the
phone call that no one wants from my dad on April 18th. My mom had died in
her sleep at age 54. I was out of my mind with thoughts of being alone.
So, I got on this website and posted just like you did. I got posts and
personal emails that helped me feel less alone. You've made the first step
by asking, so now you just have to wait for your www.obesityhelp.com
brothers and sisters to help. I also found that praying and asking others
to pray for me helped alot, too. Good Luck and email me if you need to
talk!

First of all, I'm so sorry about your mom. I don't live anywhere near you,
but i'm an email away if you need anything. May God watch over you during
your surgery and recovery. ((((HUGS))))

Georgia,
I have plenty of support to spare! I live in Tennessee and my family
lives in Indiana. I have my husband and growen daughter here, but they
work, so I am alone with my dogs most days. I had my surgery 04/03/02 and
so far so good. I would be happy to have a new friend! You can email me, I
usually read my email daily, but not on the week-ends as often. Please
write me anytime! I use to have a good friend named Georgia, but I move
away and we lost touch, I'd love another one! My daughter is having surgery
June 3rd in Nashville. I will pray for you. God Bless you!
Your New Friend, Becky
