Question:
Has anyone here had their insurance for a few days when they went for 1st consult?
I have been working with my employer to get insurance that will cover the surgery. I finally got insurance on the 17th of May. It takes 30 days before I can use it, however, I did schedule an appointment with BTC for the 20th of June..3 days after my insurance will become active. I made sure that my insurance does not have a pre-existing clause or waiting period. It supposed to be a "cadillac insurance"..or atleast that's how the agent described it. But I can't help but worry that when I go for the consult, I will get denied because I haven't had the insurance for long. Lord knows I've struggled to get insurance and have gone through hell and back trying to get it. Finally got it and don't want to mess it up! Has anyone here been in this situation? Should I go ahead and go for the consult on the 20th or should I wait? I hate waiting any longer...EVERYDAY IS LIKE A YEAR FOR ME!! Help! — Samar M. (posted on May 21, 2002)

Yes, my insurance went into effect on October 1, 2001. I had my inital
consultation October 5, 2001. And then had surgery November 13, 2001! I
did have prior coverage so I did not have to deal with the pre-existing
condition. Good luck on your journey.

I had my consult under one insurance, then switched jobs and had surgery a
very short time later under another insurance. For me, since I had
creditable coverage during the sixty days before I started my new job, no
pre-existing condition clauses applied.

I began my job first week of January. My insurance began that day, I looked
into surgery that month. Had a consult & approval by March...INsurance
paying for all.... Good luck!

Hi, I had my consult on July 20, last year and my insurance had just became
available on the 1st. I had another insurance and switched because I know
that my insurance now covers it.
Good luck

I was covered on my husbands policy which didn't cover so I switched to the
ins available to me at my work that did cover. It became effective Feb
1,2002 and my consult was three weeks later and I am going in for surgery
on May 28,2002. So as you can see it all happened very quickly for me. Best
of luck to you!

My insurance came in to effect on Feb. 1st and I made my appointment soon
there after. Since your insurance states that it doesn't have a
pre-existing penilty, then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. My
insurance really sucks so if I have surgery before the initial 6 months, it
will only pay 50/50. Soooo, I am waiting until later in the year for my
surgery (there are other reasons as well). Just make sure that your
insurance pays whatever percentage you think it pays without a
"waiting period". If you do indeed have to wait, don't panic. The
waiting is a b!tch, but as you have seen on this site, the rewards are well
worth the wait! BEST OF LUCK!
