Question:
HYPOTHYROIDISM
I WAS JUST WONDERING THOSE WHO HAVE HAD SURGERY THAT HAVE HYPOTHYROIDISM, IS IT HARDER FOR YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT, OR IS IT COMING OFF GOOD LIKE EVERYONE ELSES. — Gale G. (posted on May 19, 2002)

I've had hypothyroidism for 8 years. Had my surgery three months ago and
I'm down 65 lbs. I think that's pretty good myself! Hope this helps.

I'm 27 years old and diagnosed as hypothyroid almost 20 years ago. I've
taken Syntroid for many years. I started at 314 and like the previous
poster down 65 pounds in three months. Not so bad!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 17 years old and have been
on synthroid ever since. I had surgery 14 months ago and am already down
180 lbs. I don't feel like my thyroid problem has slowed me down in the
least. Interestingly, as I've lost weight, my thyroid dosage has gone way
down. I was on .3 mg everyday and now down to .175 mg daily.

I've been on synthroid for about 3 years. So far I've lost 36 lbs in 6
weeks....so I'm thrilled and I don't think the hypothyroidism is slowing
anything down.

I ahve been on Synthroid for about 12 years now and had surgery almost 1
year ago. I have lost 117 pounds, 6 pounds below goal weight and did it in
about 9 months, so I would say that it has had no negative effects on my
ability to lose or maintain! Best of luck.

I've been on 100 mcg of synthroid since 1994. I now am on 75 mcg. I've
not had ANY problem losing weight due to being hypothyroid. I'm losing
much faster now then before the surgery.

I would like to thank you all for your responses regarding this question.
I am 22, and have been diagnosed as hypothyroid since birth. I was taking
Synthroid until I was about 16, then went to Levoxyl. I am scheduled for
lap RNY on June 5th. I was worried about this, and am glad to hear
reassurance. :)
