Question:
ARE THERE SYPTOMS OF A PULMONARY EMBOLISM
I WAS READING THE MESSAGE BOARD, AND A LADY SAID SHE HAD 2 EMBOLISMS 16 DAYS AFTER SURGERY. ARE THERE SYMPTONS THAT YOU CAN HAVE WHEN YOU GET ONE OF THESE OR WHAT. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW THAT AHEAD OF TIME YAKNOW. — Gale G. (posted on May 16, 2002)

Pulmonary embolism commonly has no preceding warning signs. Warning signs
are present in less than 24% of patients with pulmonary embolism. Some
signs may be labored or difficult breathing, coughing up blood, rapid heart
rate, rapid respirations, etc.

I had surgery April 9, 2001. On the 10th, the nurses tried to get me up
for a walk, and I almost blacked out..The nurses and doctors, came running,
they moved me to ICU, and put a central line in...Yes I had an embolism to
the lung.

When I got mine at 3 mos out, I thought it was a just a side stitch from
jogging. Over the course of two days, it became unbearable, so that I
couldn't breathe. Then, you know - it's GET TO THE HOSPITAL time!
