Question:
Anyone with BCBS Blue Choice Option HMO in Georgia Been approved for
Open RNY with Fobi Pouch? I"ve asked this question twice before but received no response. My doctor says BCBS will probably approved the Open RNY, and that I can add the Fobi procedure to it, if I am willing to pay $1800.-$3200.00. Well, I don't have that kind of money laying around, but this is the procedure I want. I feel it will be better for weight loss over the long term as well aa future maintenance. Has anybody, anywhere in Georgia with my insurance been approved for this type of bypass surgery without having to pay anything out of pocket? HELP!!! I need some ammo if I'm going to fight BCBS successfully!!!!!!!!! Thanks Jo-Dee Hortz — tinyjo (posted on May 13, 2002)

Georgia is one of the few states that requires insurance companies to pay
for wls---I would consult my benefit book and give the customer service rep
a call--

I think its dependent upon your employer and the benefits coverage it has
with BCBS Bluechoice HMO. I have Bluechoice and I was covered 100% for my
Gastric Bypass. I would recommend seeking a second opinion beforeing
agreeing to pay out of pocket. I would have had to do that had I not
gotten a second opinion from a Dr. who pursues the insurance companies
approval first instead of as an after thought.
