Question:
Please explain how they can do the TT at the same time as RNY?
After reading some questions I am just curious, how can they do a TT at the same time of an RNY? Don't you have to lose weight before they do a TT? How is it decided to do the TT at the same time? Also can someone please explain exactly what a female hernia is and what it feels like. Thanks a lot!! — Female C. (posted on May 6, 2002)

I had a combination Open RNY/panniculectomy (tummy tuck) on 4/1/02. I
don't know specifically how it worked in my situation, but basically my
surgeon just removed the entire lower portion of my belly. Pre-op, I
basically didn't have a lap...my belly hung down to my mid-thigh. Now, I
have a lap and I can see the tops of my thighs. There is still a chance I
will have to have another panni after my weight loss. My surgeon made the
suggestion to me about the combination surgery. He said I was a rare case
where the combination surgery would be appropriate. He felt that the
removal of my pannus (belly) would make walking much easier, and the
increased activity and mobility would further enhance my weight loss and
recovery. I am female, 5'10", and my starting weight was 444. I lost
33 pounds just from the panniculectomy. I am five weeks post-op and have
lost a total of 79+ pounds (last time I weighed in was 4 days ago at 365).
