Question:
How soon after surgery do they put you on vitamins?
I am 7 days post-op and was wondering when the doctor will put me on vitamins. I was just curious as to when your doctors put you on them. I have been doing great, but this is on my mind. Thanks for any info. — Amy H. (posted on April 25, 2002)

I had surgery on April 5th. On April 16th my surgeon told me to start
taking the vitamins. The ones he recommended were the generic CVS brand
multi-vitamins. They are real small and not like those regular "horse
pills" that most vitamins are. These are the the size of a pencil
eraser tip. I am still on pureed food but have no problem swallowing these
vitamins.

I had surgery October 3, and my surgeon told me to start taking my vitamins
on October 6 (the day after I was discharged from the hospital). The ones
I take are scored, so I used to break them in half when I first started
taking them. Good luck to you!

My Dr sent me home from the hospital with a prescription for chewable
vitamens and told me to start on them along with 2 tums a day -- I had
surgery 4/3/02 :-) I also had gotton flintstones chewable before i went in
as that seems to be the most popular . You should start taking them as
you need the nutrients -- Good luck :-)

We start protein drinks & vites on Day 7. We take a variety of vites
that cover the 8 elements lost with RNY, so not one specific type.
