I just requested totals for my operation I had in Aug. 2000. Once I get
them, I shall update my site. I have BCBS PPO through UFCW/Valley Clerks,
but since every Insurance is different, I think I paid less than most.

I have Blue Cross of California PPO. I was approved with the first letter
that my surgeons office sent to them. It only took 8 weeks to get
approval. I had no problems whatsoever getting my approval.

I had Lap RNY on 6/29/01 under Blue Cross' Prudent Buyer PPO at
Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. I believe they paid 90% to the surgeon,
assistant surgeon, anesthesiologist, the hospital, and the pulmonary
specialist who was necessary in my case. The only amount they didn't
cover, that I had to pay up front, was $200 for the psych. eval. If
insurance is paying at 90%, I would balk at any provider who asked for the
10% amount up front. In the case of that which isn't covered (in my case,
the psychotherapist), asking for up front money is fair enough. All the
best to you!

Lisa- I also have Blue Cross of California PPO. It depends on whether your
surgeon/hospital is a blue croos provider. If they don't like Alvarado then
you do have to generally pay them up front. To find out whether your
physician, etc. accept blue cross go to bluecrossca.com.
