Question:
Any pre-ops diet/exercise before surgery? Outcome?
My surgery date is June 12 and I'd like to loose a few pounds (currently 355) by then. I'd like to hear from anyone who followed a diet right before surgery and get a detailed account of specifics regarding the diet/exercise regimen and how it affected you after surgery. Thank you. — lturman (posted on April 8, 2002)

It certainly can't hurt to lose some and start building your strength
before surgery. I didn't lift a finger and had an awesome recovery. I was
up and walking before 24 hours, only felt soreness, not pain, and was home
in less than 48 hours. If I had exercised before surgery, there is a
possibility of it going smoother. But I don't think it could have been
better!

My Md insisted I begin an exercise program and increae my protein intake to
improve my tissue for surgery- I quit all carbonated sodas and worked out
at Curves for Women 4-5 times a week- both my doctor and I felt that it
made a tremendous difference in my recovery- good luck

I started exercising as soon as I made the decision to have surgery. My
weight on surgery day was 363#'s. If I had not exercised and worked on
strengthening my arms and legs, I do not think I would have been as mobile
as I was. Exercising made a world of difference in my mental attitude.
