Question:
I'm off to GNC tomorrow (before my 20% off coupon expires) and

I'm still pre-op, and want to know what you get at GNC. Which vitamin supplements? Which protein supplements? Specifically, the names of them so I know what to ask for in case I can't find it on my own. Thanks :)    — KelBurt (posted on March 22, 2002)

I've got one of those coupons too! The thing I always get at GNC is the Metrx Total Nutrition shakes, for protein. They've got (I think) 37 grams of protein in a 16-oz. shake (takes a while to drink but it's good). The Extreme Chocolate flavor is FANTASTIC, but then I'm a chocoholic. It's the best protein drink I've ever had, and I've been through a lot of them (10 months' post-op). Plus it's got a lot of other vitamins and minerals. Hey, now that I think about it, I'm off to GNC tomorrow!:-)

GNC vanilla flavored whey protein . . . blended with orange juice, it's like a dreamcicle. Yum yum, and 20 grams of protein per scoop.

Hi Kelli, My trips to GNC are usually for educational purposes; to read labels and learn. Because even with a coupon from them, you can get what you need online at www.prosource.com or other sites too. Being pre-op, and believe me, I'm no expert, I'd say what you need to stock up on at this point is a good multi-vitmain and calcium citrate +D (combined in one pill). Like I said, I'm not an expert, I'm just going by what I've learned from reading on here at this site. After your surgery, you will need to take more, but I think your nutritionist at your surgeon's office would be able to make those suggestions, as they all differ. BUT since you're going to GNC, look for the bargains. The last time I was in there I found a shelf with their individual protein supplements marked down from $2.29 each to 25 cents per pack. I bought them. Also, their protein bars are marked down like a month before they get ready to expire, so you'll want to look for some that are high in protein, yet low in carbs and sugar content. I stocked up on alot of different kinds of them too and tossed them in the freezer, cause post op, sometimes that's one of the only ways you can get your protein in, your new pouch will be so sensitive. Hope I helped.

I forgot to mention the name of the protein shakes that were on sale. TwinLab Fuel Plex Meal Replacement Nutrition Shakes in french vanilla and chocolate. 25g protein, total fat 1g, tpta; carbs 6g. sugar less than 1g. 100% whey protein enriched with lots of other vitamins and minerals. It was a deal at 25 cent/pack. You can really be creative with these, depending on what you add to the blender; banana, yogurt, a little o.j., a few berries, etc.
