Question:
Like it or not?
I just joined "Curves" yesterday. I am to the point in my weight loss that I need to start toning up, or trying to. I was wondering if any of you also joined this health club and how you like it. Is it actually working for you? If it is, how many inches have you lose in how long? Does it work on the panni, too? Thats what Im worried about the most. Thanks in advance! Good luck and God bless everyone! — Kerry P. (posted on March 15, 2002)

I have recently joined the gym at work (limited equipment but not bad).
After my first 6 months I noticed my weight loss slowing so I pushed on the
exercise and it has really helped. I still have a ways to go (about another
100 lbs) so I don't know if I can help on the toning question but I have
lost inches and I feel so good from the exercise. I especially like the
step class but it's only 1 night a week. Good luck to you.

I joined Curves about 3 months ago...so far I enjoy it and have noticed
more firmness in my stomach and upper arms...still waiting for inner thighs
to firm up though. The bad thing about Curves is the hours they keep. I
can't say how many inches I've lost that is directly related to Curves but
my surgeon says I have lost 49 inches and 69 pounds in 3 months but that it
is mainly due to walking 3 miles per day. Good luck and just stick to
walking and working out and I'm sure you'll tone up and be happier because
your healthy.

I joined Curves on Nov 29, 2001. My Lap RNY was on 9/27/01. Since then, I
work out there an aveage of 5X per week and have lost an average of 9
inches per month. It has raised my weight loss by 1 to 1/2 pounds per week
compared with not exercising. My friends tell me that I look healthier
since I started going there, and several have started going as a result.
My secret? I really work with a full range of motion and try to increase
repetitions as often as I'm able. Also, I don't go and socialize much. I
work. The stretching is as important as the machines, and I watch the clock
to be sure I'm getting the full 15 second stretch every time. My standing
heart rate has decreased significantly, and now I have to have a higher
heart rate to get up to 75-80% fat burning range.
It depends on how you carry your weight, your age, and your body's
elasticity on how your pannis will respond. Personally, my abs are getting
to be in great shape, but I'm pretty sure I'll need a tummy tuck.
I've lost 98 lbs, but still have about 100 to go.
By the way, they just hired me to work there 2 mornings/week, so they must
think I'm doing something right:-)
Good luck to you! Hope you have good success too.

Hello!!
I had my surgery (open) on Oct 4, 2002 and started going to the gym
about 6 weeks out. To this date--April 11, 2003 I have lost 107 pounds and
104 3/4 inches. I have lost over 16 in just my waist and over 10 in my
hips. I also have a large stomach, and things are going back to a better
place. I will probably need a tummy tuck, but I know that my stomach would
look worse if I hadn't excercised. I also wouldn't have lost 100 pounds in
just 5 months. Good luck with the workouts--they are worth it in the long
run!!
