Question:
I have been eating raw baby carrots like crazy, is this a healthy snack?
I tolerate them well, and they fill me up when I have that munchy feeling. It was pretzels but now it's carrots which is better? — Lynda T. (posted on March 8, 2002)

I bet some post ops will tell you to watch for the sugars, but I can't
imagine any vegetable ever being a bad choice, as long as you're not
stuffing yourself like crazy to avoid feeling something...(BC's are great
for that cause they're so crunchy). But they are also filled with lots of
vitamins and other good stuff. So, I'd say they're a better choice than
pretzels (or m & ms or hershey's kisses or reeces or any of the myriad
of nibbles we pre-ops can gorge on!) Happy crunching!

What a great snack! I think as long as you chew them well they should be
fine. Between the carrots and the pretzels I would choose the carrots. The
veggies won't "turn to sugar" like the pretzels and they have
lots of vitamins. BTW congrats on your loss. 96# in 4 months!!!! You are
doing great!

As vegetables go, carrots are high in carbs ... but I agree with the
previous poster who pointed out that any vegetable snacks are more likely
to be a good thing than a bad thing. Carrots are loaded with vegetables
and very filling. My opinion: keep snacking!

Carrots are actually quite high on the glycemic index, containing high
levels of natural sugars. All things considered, they're more nutritious
than pretzels though!
