How would I know if I have a Hernia?

You may not know that you have one. I had a hernia near by belly button
and had it repaired when I had open RNY. I did not know that I had a
hernia, and had no problems or pain near that area. Some people can see or
feel a lump and have pain associated with their hernia. Sorry that I can't
give you any more information.

I don't know about eveyone else But I didn't know i had a hernia. I just
kept vomiting and experiencing pain under my diaphragm. Then I went to the
doctor and they ordered a egd which I guess showed the hernia otherwise I
don't think I would have known what was wrong.

I had a fairly large bulge on my left side, no pain, just the bulge, and I
didn't realize it was a hernia until the surgeon checked it out. I will be
having it repaired this summer unless it begins to hurt before then. If you
have a reason to think you have one, ask your surgeon to check at your next
appointment. Good luck.

I am not sure that you can always know that you have a hernia.. I thought I
had an incisional hernia near my navel.. Boy, was I surprised, when I had
my recent revision, and the surgeon discovered a grapefruit sized
incisional hernia just below my breasts...
I had some pain in that region, but even the docs didnt know I had a hernia
here until I was in OR.
