Question:
I have had 3 C sections I am just wondering how the recovery from RNY compares?

Baby, there is no comparison. The C-sections were tons easier. That said, I
think the reason is we are too preocupied with the new baby to even notice
the pain. I have had 2 c-sections my self. Now I had an open RNY, and
although the first day was painful, it really wasen't that bad. I think its
the shock of going to sleep not hurting, and waking up hurting. Once you
get use to it, and the pain pump kicks in you'll be fine. I just wished I
had the "baby" to go with it...LOL...NOT!

I had 2 c-sections. The first was for twins. It was a bear. Pain
control was IM demerol. That is very poor pain control by today's
standards. The second c-section was almost as bad with IM demerol for pain
control. My RNY was lap, so incisional pain was minimal. Pain control was
IV morphine and toradol (an anti-inflamatory). The pain was also well
controlled in post op with fentanyl and IV morphine. Talk with your
surgeon before surgery and find an acceptable means of pain control. I had
very minimal discomfort. I went home 2 days post-op with nothing for pain
and didn't need anything. Everyone's experience is different. Be an
advocate for yourself and work with your doc concernng pain control and it
will be OK.

Connie,
I've also had three C-sections. I'm sorry to say there isn't much of a
comparison. The C-sections were much easier for me. I think the main reason
was the location of the incision. The recovery of my open RNY more closely
resembled the open gall bladder surgery I had several years ago. Your
previous experience with surgical pain does better prepare you than someone
who has never had surgery, though. I think another factor is the age of
your children. Two of mine are preschool age and it was very difficult to
explain why I couldn't pick them up for a while. My youngest also wanted to
sit on my lap or lay on me which was just scary. I started putting a bed
pillow between us and that really helped with the pain. The biggest thing
to keep in mind is that your WLS is just as worth while as the C-sections
were. This time it will be your birthday. Congratulations!

I also had 2 c-sections.. I had the the LAP- RNY.. I actually think the RNY
was easier.. I guess that's because I did not have the big incision all
across my lower abdomen and all the cutting of my muscles and stuff.. The
small holes really made a big difference. I don't know I am a lot older
now.. My last baby is 17.. So maybe I just deal better with pain.. Who
knows.. I just think this surgery was a lot easier and had a much faster
recovery time that's for sure.

I had my lap rny a week ago and I'd take my c-section over again in a
heartbeat! Everyone kept telling me the same thing and its NOTHING like it.
This was much worse :(

I had Lap RNY on 8/6/01. I had a C-section on 7/30/97. This RNY was a
walk in the park for me. I returned to work the next Monday !! Everyone
is different. Good luck !

I also had a c-section. The c-section to me was by far more painful than
the open RNY. I returned to work for 4 hours aday the week after my
surgery. It was not easy, but I found it helped to me get back into the
groove of things. I sit all day, so this was not a hardship for me to
return to work. The second week I was back full time, but if I got tired I
stopped and took a break.Just rememer to walk as much as you can.It helps
the soreness alot.

I have had 3 c sections and a hysterectomy. I think the RNY was different
because of where the incision is. I found it easier to move around and get
out of bed after the RNY. Because I had a bikini cut the other times, my
belly felt like it pulled on the incisions all the time. I didn't have
anything like that after WLS. I was at my desk 2 weeks later working.
Remember the coughing pain? Didn't seem to have that either after WLS.

I had 2 C-sec. I had a LAP RNY, and was Christmas shopping
5 days after. I was tired afterwards, but no pain. I was only on pain meds
in the hospital, I didn't need any at home. I was uncomfortable sleeping
for about 4-5 days, but each day got better. I am a light weight, and don't
know if this helped me recover faster? because some 300+ recover qucikly
too, with minimal pain. I guess it just depends on each individual.

Well my RNY wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I would take a
c-section over an RNY anyday. My c-section was a walk in the park compared
to my RNY.

The surgery for me was much easier but I had it lap. Took about a week to
recovery verses 5 or more with the c section
