This is not to the poster as I really have no idea when you can drink soda again but to the anonymous poster. If you, like me, had taken just one second of your time..you would have noticed she works for BTC and is probably VERY well educated on the subject since that is her job. No need to attack another person that is trying to help.

I am over 8 months post op and still cannot drink anything carbonated. I was a HUGE Mtn. Dew & Coke-aholic preop. The best news is after the first couple of months I quit craving cokes or dew. I now drink tea or crystal light and I am satified with that. Unbelieveable concept to me.

i was able to drink diet coke at about 4 months post op. Dr recommends caffiene free though. He told me that if there is caffeine, the liquid you take in counts as only half of what you actually drink, because caffiene is dehydrating.

I took the time once to look up Donna Brandt's profile. However, I also know that I assume anyone who posts a question or an answer is someone who is planning to, thinking about, or has had surgery. I don't think the question was all that bad.

I was able to start drinking carbonated sodas about 8 months post-op. I still try to avoid caffeine and only have about 8-12 oz. in a sitting. Water's best, but don't feel like you will NEVER be able to have a sip of Coke again. By the way, I read the earlier comments on this question, and I can tell one thing: this "starvation diet" is really making us grouchy! Can't we all be a little more forgiving, tolerant and supportive of others on this site?

My surgeon sent me home with an order that I could drink 7 up or gingerale (diet) as needed.. but if I couldn't tolerate it to let it get flat until I could... I have tolerated fizzy stuff since about 4 weeks post op, but all diet.. and I can't drink diet pepsi or coke.. can't stand the taste.. but for the most part, I stick with Crystal lite and decaffinated tea.. Everyone is different, so be careful finding out what's right for you.. :)

From what I understand...The reason why I was told to NOT drink soda of any kind was because of the carbonation. The carbonation will stretch out your pouch..but I can see that it seems that everybody is told something different. Thats a question that you should ask YOUR surgeon and see what he says..Good Luck! My 2 cents... I am almost 8 weeks post-op. When I really crave coke I have some, but guess what???? In a small medicine 1oz. cup. It's just a swallow, but boy is it good!!! Sometimes if I must have more ( like 2-3 sips) I let it sit out untill some of the carbonation is gone/ but not totally flat, and drink. Once I drank 3-4 gulps of a cold coke and my stomach hurt real bad!!!! now I drink slow when I drink a carbonated beverage. Which is about 2X a week.

I was able to drink soda pop at 5 months post-op. But it was a fountain soda, they seem to have less carbonation than the bottle or canned soda. I take small sips and it last me for hours, but it tastes so good. I would never try this with meals though, I need the small space to be reserved for my nutritious food.

I order coke when I go to a restaurant, sip slowly, probably drink no more than 4 ounces total. It has not bothered me at all. I don't do it often because of the calorie/caffeine content but it tastes good and is a nice change from water, water, water.

Before my surgery I was a real Pepsiholic. I drank Pepsi with breakfast, lunch & dinner and in between. In the beginning after surgery it didn't bother me not having it but now it does. What I try to do is limit it to caffene free and I only have it on weekends. Now I don't feel deprived and want it all the time.

I was a big Dr. Pepper addict before surgery (full sugar--not the diet). I stopped drinking it before surgery because I knew my dr recommended that. I don't crave it like I did before and I don't drink much soda at all because it makes my pouch feel too full and uncomfortable, BUT . . . (you knew there was a but coming, right? ;)<p>Sometimes I just really crave a soda and when I do, I go thru a drive thru and get a small Dr. Pepper. I only drink about an ounce, but that satisfies me and it is not as fizzy as if I drank from a can or bottle so I'm not uncomfortable. I only do that every couple of months. If somebody had told me I wouldn't crave soda I wouldn't have believed them!

you were me right before my r.n.y. i was addicted to diet dr, pepper, i drank a gallon a day i kid you not. i hated water,, i didn't drink a glass of water in ten years. after the surgery? i tried dr. pepper several times,, it tasted like battery acid to me,, i began to drink bottled water and i have not looked back, my dr. said tastes may change and they have. the plus side no caffeine!!

I have always been a soda fan (diet or regular). I am now three weeks post-op and have had diet soda, but FLAT diet soda. I have never been bothered by the fact that there may be no carbonation. I don't have this every day, but do enjoy it as a treat occassionally. I do find though that even the diet drinks taste extra sweet to me, but no dumping! I think the topic of drinking sodas post-op is a very controversial issue. I believe if you get your 64+ ounces of "water or other non-caloric fluids" in each day, treating yourself to a very small amount will not hurt you.

I started drinking diet sodas about three months out. I open one, put it on the desk in front of me, and wait about 45 minutes before I drink it for some of the carbonation to die down. I also try to only drink clear, caffeine-free diet sodas, such as Diet 7-up, Fresca, and Diet Ginger Ale.

Diet Mountain Dew is fairly easy to sip on since it does not seem to have as much carbonation as other diet sodas.

I have a question/suggestion...has anyone tried mixing the sugar free syrups w/water to get that cola taste? I noticed today on Michelle Curran's site that she now has cola flavor! I would die if that tasted just like a Coke...my favorite and the biggest sacrifice for me. :)
