Question:
Am I OK with my diet?
I am 3 months post op and have read others that were eating whole tacos & etc, but I am barely able to eat anything. I may eat 4-5 bites of mashed potatoes,1/2 a string cheese,or a couple bites of chicken (not at one meal) and I am full. I can't do any hamburger or I feel sickly. Is this OK or am I behind on eating? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 8, 2002)

That's about where I was at 3 months post-op but by 4 months, I was eating
a half-sandwich or an entire yogurt. Don't worry - it will speed up soon
enough.

I think you are fine. I see those postings and just shake my head. I am 5
months post-op down 150, and I cannot eat any meats of any kind without
feeling sick. I was o.k. with fish at first, but now, nothing. I still
eat alot ot soft food only because it is the only thing that doesn't make
me feel ill. Scrambled eggs, beans and rice, yogurt and cottage cheese
make up the bulk of my diet. I drink at least one sometimes 2 protein
shakes a day and sometimes about 1/2 of a Protein Revolution bar which has
no sugar and low carbs. I get in plenty of protein, just not from meat. I
feel very healthy and my weight loss has been steady. Don't judge yourself
by what other people can or can't do/eat. If I've learned anything from
the wonderful people on this site it's this: We are all very different,
and we all have different experiences and tolerances, do not get
discouraged if your experience doesn't match up with anyone elses. Take
care.

You're fine. My theory is the less you eat in the first year, the
better off you are. I couldn't eat much at for the first 10 months.
I marvel at folks who can eat tacos at three months! I lost 150lbs.
in 10 months. Then my appetite returned and I found I could hold more
foods, I lost very little after the first 10 months.
