Question:
I am 9 months post op and have lost 104 lbs but since Aug of 2001 I have started
having two periods a month and have been on my period now since Dec 4th, thats over 40 days. My doctor has checked me for endometriosis and done a pap which came back normal. She says it could be caused from my rapid weight loss. Has anyone else experienced this? — deborah P. (posted on January 20, 2002)

I have heard that estrogen is stored in fat cells and when you loose the
weight, you have alot of estrogen running through your body. A while back,
when I was hunting for a birth control pill, I was started on one that had
estrogen and I bled for weeks. I don't know if the two correspond, but you
might want to ask your doc if that excess estrogen could be the cause.???
Good Luck

When I asked my GYN for guidance on an estrogen tablet (I had been using
Premarin which is coated) he said he didn't know anything about treating
"people who have this done to themselves." I was disappointed,
but I felt like telling him to LEARN about it! Unfortunately, very few
PCPs know that much about estrogen and how it effects our bodies post op.
I wish they did know how to treat us!

I'm curious to find out what could be causing this for you. I'm still
pre-op and (coincidentally) I've had my period since about December 10th!!!
I went to see my PCP and all she did was give me some birth control pills.
She told me that my hormones were out of whack and that the pills would
straighten things out. Hmmmm....I don't know. I think that I would like a
second opinion. Good luck to you and let us know if you find anything else
out.
