Question:
I am 6 days postop and on a purred diet.....can I have meat loaf?
In the manual that my dietician gave me she listed recipes that I can have....just pureed. I have a recipe for meatloaf which uses 93% fat free hamburger, bread crumbs, an egg, onion soup mix, water, ketchup. In my recipe book from the dietician she has hamburger listed and a recipe with ketchup. If I puree this meatloaf do you think I am safe? Please help soon — hawk4life (posted on January 20, 2002)

My doc didn't want his patients to eat anything that could
not put through a tea strainer for 3 weeks post-op. You
should hear some of the items people tried to puree.
Some even just licked the taste off BBQ chips, etc. but
didn't "eat" them.

Not all doctors require that you be on liquids for weeks. I was on
soft/pureed food when I was discharged. I could definitely eat pureed
meatloaf at day six. I got a bunch of tiny bathroom cups and I would puree
a food, or make a batch of oatmeal, or potatoes or whatever (I loved pureed
black bean soup immediately post-op, and cottage cheese) and fill the
little cups about half full. Then at meal times I could pick a cup or two
to heat and eat. I was supposed to take about 45 minutes to do so and this
system worked great for me.

My Dr. told me I could have anything I could put puree in a blender. But,
I'm not sure if I would have tried to do that to a meatloaf. LOL
