Question:
At what point after surgery did you begin feeling like yourself again?
I had open RNY on 1/7/02 and just was wondering how long it will take before I start feeling better. Thanks. — Elizabeth P. (posted on January 19, 2002)

I can't answer for anyone else but it took about a month before I felt like
I had returned to the land of the living. I was tired to the bone for a
good month. There is a light at the end of this tunnel.

I HAD MY OPEN RNY ON 12/14/01 AND AM STILL A LITTLE TIRED. NOT AS MUCH AS
RIGHT AFTER SURGERY, AND EVEN THOUGH I HAVE MORE ENERGY (52 LBS AND
27") I STILL AM NOT UP TO PAR. I DO GET STRONGER EVERY DAY THOUGH.

Elizabeth, for me I felt really good by my 4th week. Before that I was very
sluggish quite often. I'm almost 6 weeks now and I'd say I'm at about 90%.
Still a bit tender in the tummy area, not on a full diet yet and still
trying to feel my way around my new lifestyle. But its so true what
everyone says, every day it gets better. (well, MOSTLY everyday). Good Luck
and hang in there.

at least 4 weeks until I wanted to do anything but feel sorry for myself.
Then I was better able to keep the water and vitamins down and I got my
first b-12 shot. Second month was much better. I was able to take 3 months
off of work so about 2 1/2 months out although I still got a little tired I
was bored and ready to go back. But I didn't , I figured at my age 50 and
for the amt of lifting I would do ,I'd take my time returning to work , I
was glad I did. I was open RNY and I really pampered myself post op.

It took me exactly a month to feel like I wanted to do ANYTHING at all.
All of a sudden I felt so good I returned to work 2 weeks before I had
planned on. Of course, now I've got a touch of a flu and feel horrible
again. So I'd say, play it by ear. DON'T push yourself. Listen to your
body!

I had my surgery on 10/23/01 and after three weeks I started feeling
better. After a month I felt fine, I didnt even feel like I had surgery.
Now after 3 months almost I feel like the surgery was a year ago. No
physical pain, just some foods can be a problem.

the point where I am feeling ready to "go out and play" Everyone
