Like the previous poster said it could be from the rib spreaders... also my surgeon told me I was doing too much too early when I got a pain under the rib cage (I went home, and walked up my stairs, had my kids sitting on my lap, getting up and out of my recliner frequently.. I did anything but rest coming home).. So you might want to watch your activity also..

hi frank. congrats on ur new birthday. i am 3 weeks post op open rny & i also had this really bad pain at the top of the incision & spreading to the left, dead center under my breast. it was as tho it were contained by a wall. started exactly one place & ended in another. little by little i noticed it easing up from the incision to the left, like the walls were closing in. i noticed last nite it was GONE. just like it came, it went. i do believe what our long term post op family is saying...the rib spreaders. good luck!

I experienced the same pain in the same location after my RNY procedure which was done laproscopically, so I don't believe rib spreaders were used in my case. My doc told me it was gas because they had to fill me up with air in order to get clear video pictures. It was not like the normal digestive tract gas which explained the location. After 2 days when I finally started releasing gas, it started to move and after 4 days, subsided.

Hi my name is Nicole and i had lap band done on the 21st april 4 days ago. I also have great pain under my ribcage and on my main incision. Every day it seems to ease a little but still very painfull on day 4. I have had my gall bladder removed before with key hole surgery and experienced the same pain. I also had a hi hernia removed that they found while they were inside .
