Question:
Should I be using Designer Whey Protein ?

Hi all, well I went to a nutritional store and bought some "Designer Whey Protein Mix" it has 35grams of protein and 3 grams of carbs per 2 scoops. Is this a good choice? And for those out there who have already tried this, should I mix it with water or milk?? Thanks a bunch!    — Jennifer M. (posted on January 8, 2002)

Designer Protein is actually what my doctor WANTS his patients to use. He directs us to mix it with skim milk for the most protein. Good luck, Branny

Designer Whey Protein is great! In fact, they just came out with a brand new product called "Protein Blast". It's a premixed sports protein drink and comes in two flavors, Orange PassionFit and a Kiwi flavor, and two strengths 17g/20 oz and 34 g/20 oz. No sugar, no fat. I've tried the Orange and it tastes like Crystal Lite. I love it! I've stocked up for my upcoming surgery. Plan on drinking it immediately post-op.

I was at a plateau 3 weeks post op, I started using Desinger Whey and started walking more and it broke my plateau. I mix it with skim milk and a banana and it taste like a smoothie. Good choice.

Actually, I love the Designer Whey Protein,I mix mine with Crystal Lite, Strawberry Kiwi and it is delicious. However, my doctor does not want me to drink the protein, but to get it in my meats. He thought it was high calorie, but it only has 90 calories. Occasionally, I will drink it, but not too often.

Designer is a good product, esp if you LIKE it. Stick with the 2 scoops, never more. I personally use water because I don't want the extra calories & sugars of real juice or milk. Those CAN turn it into a weight GAINER, as some products state on the labels. Your 2 sc will shake up in as little as 4 oz of water, but of course, adjust to taste. Many add a few slices of fruit or berries for texture & fun. Just be careful in what you add, read the labels for sugar, etc. You can't really absorb any more than the 30-35g in the protein, so adding more calories is not going to add any more protein that you can use.

My favorite protein supplement, in fact the only one I'll drink, is made by that company. It's the Designer Protein Smoothie in AbBerry. Comes in a box of ten envelopes. Instructions are to mix each powder serving with 8-10 ice cubes in a blender with water and suggests adding half a banana. Do it! Really, it's as good as anything I've gotten at a juice bar...and I live in Los Angeles so I've been to lots of them! Low carbs, 27 grams of whey protein...and costs less than $20 for a box of 10. One of those smoothies is my breakfast; for two bucks, I think it's a great deal! = >
